The picture. The method measured two long theses: Nasdaq REJECTED, WTI oil WATCHED. No new order: that is a result too. Tonight the oil proposal from 13 Oct reaches its time exit.
To understand today: a convincing story is not a measured edge.
Technology. The Nasdaq 100 lost 5.5% in five sessions on fears about artificial intelligence (CoreWeave -25% on the week). The mechanism: if the market doubts that AI investment will pay off, the most exposed stocks fall first; the Dow, outside this story, closes the week at +0.7%. This morning futures are up and Chinese data came in above expectations: the broker's Nasdaq goes from 29,180 to about 29,580, but DeepSeek's new model revives the doubts.
Oil, pulled from two sides. On Friday WTI closed at +9% over five sessions: Hormuz closed, three tankers hit over the weekend, the Houthis against Yanbu, the Saudi port that bypasses the strait. This morning it is down 1.9%, from 99.24 to about 97.35, but not because of a reopening: because of Trump's order lifting sanctions and tariffs on Russian diesel. More Russian supply, not peace in the Gulf: the tight-supply thesis still stands. Faced with a move, the cause first.
Rates and the Fed. After the hot data (CPI 3.7%) the US ten-year fell from 5.33% to 5.08%: Bowman, Daly and Warsh said there is no need to hike right away. For 28 Oct the Fed is priced on hold at 84%, meaning that probability is already priced in: if it holds, things move little; if it hikes, that is the 16% surprise and everything moves. Gold (-3.7% in a month) sits in the middle: falling rates and war support it, the December hike (88%) holds it back.
The week. No track 1 news (payrolls, CPI, PCE, ISM manufacturing, Fed) until the Fed on 28 Oct.
- Netflix on 20 Oct, Meta and Tesla on 21 Oct: if they disappoint, the Nasdaq may fall toward the 28,800 floor, where the weekly's limit sits; if they reassure, the limit may expire on 23 Oct unfilled.
- 21 Oct at 08:00 Italian time, UK inflation expected at 3.4% from 3.1%: above that, the BoE November hike gets closer and the pound has a reason to rise.
- 23 Oct at 01:30, Japanese core inflation expected at 2.1% from 1.7%: above that, the BoJ on 30 Oct moves closer to a hike, the yen usually strengthens and dollar/yen falls toward the weekly's limit at 157.680.
Nasdaq · long · REJECTED. Limit 28,850 on the 28,800 floor: 6 distinct days, the last on 16 Sep. Stop 28,550 below the floor: 300 points, 0.59 ATR, a little more than half an average day. Target 29,740, below the first ceiling. Shift -0.130 R, ratio -0.71: noise, but on the wrong side. Confidence 0 out of 6. Invalidation: a close below the floor. Today high 29,594.5 and low 29,060.6, level not touched.
The weekly's limit sits on the same floor: same zone, different question. Here five sessions and a tight stop, there the drift over weeks and a wide stop.
WTI oil · long · WATCHED. At market, about 97.35. Stop 92.00 below 92.34 (2 distinct days, the last on 23 Jul). Target 102.30 below the 60-session high, 102.43. At five sessions, the declared horizon, the shift is negative (-0.041); positive only at ten, the best of nine pairs: +0.075, ratio 0.68, confidence 2 out of 6. If you try nine combinations and keep the best, one comes out well even by chance. Almost a third of the net R (+0.149) is today's swap, which can change. Invalidation: a close below 92.34. Risk: Hormuz reopened with a deal, more waivers on Russian energy, a surprise Fed hike. Time exit on 30 Oct.
In play.
- Oil · long · PROPOSAL from 13 Oct. At market 91.70, stop 87.00, target 100.40. Shift +0.301, ratio 2.25 (above 2 it starts to count), confidence MEDIUM (3 out of 6). High 99.5 on 16 Oct, target not touched; now 97.2, 6 points in favour with the stop 5 away. Time exit tonight: the record writes the result. Same thesis as today: then ratio 2.25, today 0.68.
- Gold, short, WATCHED from 14 Oct: 4,149, stop 4,270; now 4,184.97, $36 against; exits on 20 Oct.
- Gold, long, WATCHED from 16 Oct: limit 4,110, stop 4,055; never touched (low 4,147.22), expires today. Two opposite theses in two days, neither backed by the numbers.
- Dollar/yen, long, WATCHED from 14 Oct: 158.360, stop 157.450; on 15 Oct 9 pips from the stop (157.541), now 30 pips against; exits on 20 Oct.
- Silver, long, WATCHED from 15 Oct: 56.480, stop 54.300; now $1.30 in favour; exits on 28 Oct.
From the weekly, three PROPOSALS:
- Gold from 2 Oct: limit 4,105, stop 3,940, target 4,375; filled on 6 Oct, $80 in favour; exits on 2 Nov.
- Dollar/yen: limit 157.680, stop 155.550, target 160.450, until 23 Oct; not touched.
- Nasdaq: limit 28,800, stop 27,780, target 30,690, until 23 Oct; not touched.
What weighs more and what weighs less. More: the level on distinct days, the stop outside the noise, the invalidation written beforehand, the time exit. Less: the direction of the macro story, right 93 times out of 148 (63%; a coin does 50%), and the move already made (+0.78 ATR on the Nasdaq before the briefing).
The track record, since the first briefing. 9 PROPOSALS: 4 time exits, 2 not filled, 1 stop (Dow Jones on 24 Sep, -1.16 R), 1 target (euro/dollar on 28 Sep, +1.11 R), 1 ongoing; total +3.55 R net over 8 measured. WATCHED +1.92 over 46, REJECTED +3.66 over 22. We say it first: in total the rejected ones did as well as the proposals; 8 trades are few to judge by.
The orders. These are the method's orders, recorded beforehand and judged afterwards in the public record: they are not financial advice. Today no new PROPOSAL, and that is normal: of 84 theses measured so far, 9 became proposals.
- Nasdaq, long: REJECTED, measured thesis, not an order (negative shift).
- WTI oil, long: WATCHED, measured thesis, not an order (ratio 0.68: noise).
